It’s your Julie here. I thought I’d write you a love letter and tell you all the reasons why I love you, my dear soul mate. We first fell in love during The X Files. As a teen I sat up late every Thursday night with a big bowl of buttery popcorn and was fixed to the TV screen. I yelled at any family member who came within a 10 feet radius of our special time spent together. Life wasn’t always super exciting and I listed 3 reasons to get out of bed every morning.

And in the death As the last few corpses lay rotting on the slimy thoroughfare The shutters lifted in inches in ancient Temperance Building High on Poacher’s Hill And red mutant eyes gaze down on Hunger City No more big wheels Fleas the size of rats sucked on rats the size of cats And ten thousand peoploids split into small tribes Coveting the highest of the sterile skyscrapers Like packs of dogs assaulting the glass fronts of Love-Me Avenue Ripping and rewrapping mink and shiny silver fox, now legwarmers Family badge of sapphire and cracked emerald In the day of the dog The year of the diamond dog. This aint rock and roll it’s genocide

I can’t say that only bad things came from sharing a wall with my older brother Steve. The plywood sheet that separated our bedrooms might as well have been one of my mother’s linen curtains, for I was, over many years of my childhood, a sad audience to whatever grunts, emissions and telephone conversations Steve made from the comfort of his small teenage room.
